Limestone Dry Stacked Fences A part of american History

 In Blog

Dry stacked fencing has a history reaching back into ancient times. In Kentucky its history of construction can travel as far back as the late 1700s — believed to be built by slaves and/or Irish immigratnts. Kentucky’s natural limestone beds have provided the resources to construct the beautiful fences. Today there is an effort to maintain what still exists through training by the Dry Stone Conservancy.

Dry Stone walls are truly an artform

Dry stone is a building method by which structures are constructed from stones without any mortar to bind them together.

In the United States they are common in areas with rocky soils, such as New England, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania and are a notable characteristic of the bluegrass region of central Kentucky as well as Virginia.
