Boundary Fence Presents: Things to do in Denver When You’re Dead Broke!

 In Blog

Happy Birthday, Colorado!

Summer is almost over and that means one thing, back to school sales, and trying to squeeze the last big of fun out of the summer with your family and kids. Unfortunately, that means squeezing out a few more dollars from an already expensive summer vacation. Because, let’s face it, even a simple visit to one of Colorado’s world class state park can cost a pretty penny. So, as part of our “get to know your neighborhood and your neighbors” public service blogs, we’ve put together a little guide of things you can do for free in Denver, Colorado.

In celebration of Colorado Day on Monday August 3rd, 2015, you can enter any of Colorado's 42 state parks for free.

Celebrating Colorado Day 2015

There are 42 beautiful State Parks in Colorado. It’s the best of what Colorado has to offer, so before summer is over and the kids run off to school, take advantage of what Colorado does best: Parks, nature and wildlife. The only thing that could make our parks more attractive is free admission, and on Colorado Day, Monday, August 3rd, 2015, that’s exactly what they are: FREE!!

As if that wasn’t cool enough, all veterans and active duty soldiers get free admission to Colorado state parks for the entire month of August.

Memorial Day 2015

Veterans and active duty military personnel can visit any of Colorado’s state parks for free for the entire month of August.

The reason for the free State Park Day is that on August 1st, 1876 Colorado was accepted into statehood. Today, we celebrate Colorado Day on the first Monday of every August and what better way to celebrate Colorado than to open the park doors and allow anyone who wants to visit a chance to do so without having to take out a second mortgage.
