Fall leaves are natures miracle grow for a beautiful spring garden

All In A Day

Only have a few hours, but want to get out of town to enjoy the fall beauty Colorado has to offer?  September is the ideal time to witness the aspen spectacle.  The color only lasts about a week in most places, however, so time it just right!  The best plan is to select travel dates, not destinations in advance.  When the set aside time is near, go where the color is!  We show you two areas close to Denver to view the best fall foliage Colorado has to offer!

Peak To Peak Scenic Byway

Peak to Peak isn’t called a Scenic Byway for nothing.  The oldest Scenic Byway in Colorado, this 55 mile route begins in Central City, just 45 minutes from Denver, and runs north to Estes Park along Colorado State Highways 72 and 7.  It takes two hours to complete the drive, a perfect lazy afternoon activity.  This byway not only provides stunning mountain scenery, but also gives viewers a close up look at the Continental Divide.  In the fall, this drive becomes a dazzle of gold, yellow, orange, green and brown aspen trees.  In addition to the glorious fall colors, be sure to pull off and take in the views of Indian Peak, Longs Peak, along with the quintessential Colorado towns of Estes Park, Black Hawk, and Nederland.

Guanella Pass Scenic and Historic Byway

This rambling route just 45 minutes from Denver, south of the historic German town, Georgetown, boasts some of the best of fall’s quaking aspens.  Once in Georgetown, you will be directed through traffic signs towards Guanella Pass.  Take this pass south out of town.  Once you reach the town of Grant, turn right on US 285 and drive about 15 minutes to Kenosha Pass.  You will see an eyeful of aspens on the rim of the slopes encircling South Park.
