Steps to Purchasing and Choosing a Boundary Fence Style

Before heading out to buy a fence for your property, there are a few things you need to do first. One of those items is deciding exactly what type of boundary fence style you’d like to have.

When it comes time to decide on your boundary fence style, there are a few things you need to consider.

First, you need to be absolutely certain of your exact property lines. Putting your residential fence on the neighbor’s property is likely going to cause issues. That is especially true if you already have a strained relationship with the neighbors. If, however, you’re friendly with them, it probably won’t be an issue. Either way, this is the sort of thing that can be easily avoided. The solution is to have a site survey done and then mark the exact boundary or property line so you know where to put the fence.

If you live in an area run by an HOA or governed by housing development rules, look into the regulations regarding fences. There may be restrictions on the height of the fence, as well as rules dictating what materials or styles you can and can’t have for your fencing. The last thing you want to do is go through the trouble and expense of installing a new fence, only to be told it doesn’t meet the rules and you have to remove or change it.

Added Considerations

When it comes time to decide on boundary fence styles, there are a few things you need to consider. First, what is the purpose of your fence? If it’s to provide security, you want something sturdy and maybe with added security features. If the fence is for privacy, then you likely want something that obscures the view – in other words, chainlink won’t do. If you’re looking for safety, then you want something that children or pets can’t easily get over. If it’s just a decorative boundary fence, the considerations are more about looks. And if it’s to protect a decorative garden, you want something that animals in your area can’t get through.
